Maddie McCann's Brother and Sister Describe Alleged Harasser's Behavior as Extremely Disturbing and Unsettling
Madeleine McCann twin siblings, Amelie and Sean, have testified in court that their encounters with an alleged stalker were deeply disturbing and unsettling. The siblings described feeling anxious and scared by a woman who claimed she was their missing sister.
Relentless Communication Detailed as Scary
Appearing remotely, she stated how the defendant, the 24-year-old, contacted her repeatedly through social media and written correspondence. Amelie explained the relentlessness was quite scary since you don’t know what she’ll do next.
Messages from the defendant were presented in court, in which she described recollections of being in the McCann household that she claimed were recovered under hypnosis. She told the court, It’s quite disturbing that she's inventing these alleged memories, even though she isn't Madeleine.
Altered Pictures Increased Unease
The court learned that the accused had produced images of herself and Amelie as young girls, which the prosecution said were made with ChatGPT. A number of these images were sent through social media, while others were printed and included in a mail to her.
She stated, I didn’t like it, it made me feel very uncomfortable. She had clearly altered the images to make me look more like her, which was quite disturbing. I knew I didn’t look like that, I knew it had been manipulated.
Emotional Impact on the Family
Amelie also discussed the effect of the alleged stalking on her mother, their mother, who gave evidence about being approached at home by Wandelt and her alleged accomplice, Karen Spragg.
In my opinion my mother experienced it as the most difficult. She was targeted by Julia more than the others in the family and I think it definitely took its toll on her and her mental health, Amelie testified. It's distressing when someone’s pleading with you to accept their claims and manipulating your emotions, to the extent you are doubting your own judgment.
Sibling's Statement on Anxiety and Digital Attention
In a testimony read to the trial, Sean McCann stated that for him, he had not been too badly affected by the defendant's alleged harassment. But he had been upset that she was drawing online attention, with people saying nasty and unfair things about his mother and father.
If she was not suffering from a psychological condition and was fully aware she is not Madeleine, yet makes these claims, that would be very upsetting for me, he testified. I am convinced she is my sibling. The fact that Julia is engaging in this behavior has resulted in a great deal of stress and I find it deeply troubling.
The defendant and Spragg deny stalking the McCann household. The trial continue.
