Jair Bolsonaro arrested after being considered a flight risk
Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.
The former head of state was found guilty of plotting a armed takeover in last fall and given more than over two decades in jail, but he was staying under confinement pending appeals.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after "new facts" came to light.

Recent Legal Requests
It was only on the previous day that the his legal team asked the High Court to authorize him to serve his whole jail sentence under home confinement, with electronic monitoring.
They also petitioned that Bolsonaro be allowed to depart his residence for medical treatment, saying he needed ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other health problems.
Details of Guilty Verdict
The former president was convicted of leading a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Lula.
High Court judges said that he knew of a plot which encompassed plans to assassinate his opponent and his VP candidate, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been managing his judicial proceedings.
The plot was thwarted because it didn't receive the support of the military leaders. His successor was took office without issue on January 1st, 2023.
But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, many his backers attacked and damaged government buildings in the national capital, Brazil's capital.
The police took action and around 1,500 people were detained.
The justices found that the demonstrators had been provoked by him whose strategy, they said, was for the country's army to intervene, reestablish control and return him to office.
At the period, his attorneys called the decades-long sentence extremely harsh.
He was also barred from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - eight years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.
The one-time head of state called the trial a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him competing in the next presidential race.
